SOFTWARE WITH A BODY TEMPERATURE

We build software you can feel from the next room.

Feeling first. Engineering immediately after. No pitch decks, no discovery theatre, no “solutions”.

Taste is a technical skill.

Anyone can produce an interface in an afternoon. Knowing which one deserves to exist takes a decade.

Warm Static is a software atelier of six, working above a working print shop in Rotterdam. We take a feeling — a sentence, a texture, occasionally a smell — and carry it through to software that ships. We don’t write pitch decks. We write first drafts, quickly, then throw most of them away.

Vibe coding has a bad name because most of it stops at the first draft. We use the same instinct, then do the unglamorous part: performance budgets, instrumentation, accessibility, a written manual. The result should feel inevitable, as if it could not have been made any other way. That isn’t luck. That’s editing.

We are not prompt engineers.
We are prompt editors.

PANEL 03 / 09

Printed in
four passes.

Most studios sell you a process diagram. Here is ours, with the failure rates left in. Each pass exists to make the next one cheaper.

01

Feel

We start with the feeling, not the feature list. The smallest thing that produces it gets built in 48 hours: a click, a page, a sound. If the feeling isn’t there by Friday, we say so while it is still cheap.

IN THE ENVELOPE
  • 48-hour prototype
  • a written read
  • a go / no-go
48 hrs to first provocation
02

Falsify

We try to kill it. Five real users, a stopwatch, bad wifi, a hostile demo. Anything that only works in the room gets cut. Roughly 60% of what exists on Thursday does not survive Monday. That week is the most valuable one you’ll pay for.

IN THE ENVELOPE
  • five recorded tests
  • a kill list
  • a sharper, cheaper idea
60% discarded, gladly
03

Forge

Now it becomes real. Typeset, instrumented, tested on the devices your customers actually hold. Design and engineering share one file from day one. No handover, no translation loss, no “dev-ready” fiction.

IN THE ENVELOPE
  • the working thing
  • device lab notes
  • a manual, drafted
1 file two pairs of hands
04

Forget

We ship, then write the manual, the runbook, and the part nobody puts in the case study: what we would do differently. The last deliverable is a team that doesn’t need us. We count that as a feature.

IN THE ENVELOPE
  • the handover
  • a runbook
  • a postmortem, unflinching

A shutter you can hear in the dark.

A camera app for a 71-year-old lens maker. The brief arrived as one sentence: “It should feel like the lens, not the phone.”

We removed eighty per cent of the interface. No grid, no presets, no scene detection, no “AI”. One ring you drag with your thumb, and a shutter sound recorded in the factory in Kyoto — forty-one takes, one broken microphone, one engineer who kept saying more like a door closing.

The final shutter is deliberately seven milliseconds late. Early enough to feel instant, late enough to feel mechanical. Listen with headphones. Some people cry. We have stopped asking why.

PANEL 05 / 09

Dinner service is a real-time system.

A restaurant OS for a forty-seat room that refuses to close. Offline-first. One screen. No training manual, because the staff turns over every season.

Tickets print before the tap finishes. If the wifi dies, nothing changes. If the printer dies, the pass screen coughs in 200 milliseconds. If both die, the app makes a noise you can hear from the walk-in.

We sat on the pass for six services and wrote down every swear word. The interface now contains none of them. The kitchen still does.
